LA TRINIDAD --THE HIGHLIGHT OF OUR TRIP . . . LO MAXIMO DE NUESTRO VIAJE. . .

From home we packed gifts for the school children we were going to visit. We have been carrying school supplies such as pencils, markers, flashcards, games, crayons, white boards, alphabet posters to hang in the classroom, some of us even  clothing such as t-shirts, sandals and sneakers. Ms.. Thibeault and Ms. Antonuccio collected donations from AMSA's students to bring to the kids. We waited for this day with anticipation. At this second small school (ESCUELA LA TRINIDAD) we met 91 children from grades k - 8. After they finish 8 grade they have the choice of stopping their education or moving on to high school.  All the children in this tiny neighborhood walk to school, they come fed and are served lunch at school.

Julio, the school principal who is Russian, is a dedicated man who just wants the students to succeed and be happy. He stressed in his chat to us that school is meant for the students to be happy; that's what  school is about. The basic subjects (math, science, social studies and religion) are taught in the morning and some students come to school in the afternoon for art and music. this is something that Julio would like to see alll the children to be more exposed to; he believes the arts are very important.

LAS CARAS, LAS SONRISAS, LAS PALABRAS AMABLES, LA INOCENCIA DE LOS NINOS, LO MAXIMO DE NUESTRO VIAJE. . .

THE FACES, THE SMILES, THE GENTLE WORDS, THE INNOCENCE OF THE CHILDREN, THE HIGHLLIGHT OF OUR TRIP. . .

Each teacher in our group had the opportunity to teach a lesson and the children learned to sing a couple of songs such as HELLO FRIENDS, the abc in English and Old McDonald had a Farm.  They also learned to make snow flakes with paper and  scissors, to measure mass and density in water and how to makea music using a comb and waxed paper.
